A celebration of Dorothy’s
life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the
Lorne Valley Church.
Dorothy was born on the family farm in Lorne Valley,
PEI, the third oldest of 7 children to Annie & Malcolm
MacLeod. She is survived by her three loving children Wayne,
Steve and Terry; her cherished grandchildren Christopher, Patrick,
Matthew, Jake, Benjamin, Renee, Michelle and great grandchild Malcolm;
brother Palmer (Gwen, deceased), sister-in-law Shirley (Kenneth,
deceased), nieces, nephews and many friends. Also
predeceased by her parents, brothers Hugh (Reta), Peter (Glenda);
sisters Isobel (Alex MacDougall) and Teresa (Hector
Trotter).
Dorothy left PEI at 18 years
of age and moved to Montreal where she first worked as a
secretary. During WW2, she served with the British Secret
Service decoding messages transmitted from behind enemy lines in
Europe. After the war, she moved back to Montreal where she met and
married Morley Markell. They worked together in the
insurance industry and a number of years later, Dorothy formed her own
brokerage firm, the Dott Markell Insurance Agency. Owning
her own insurance brokerage was considered a major achievement for a
women at that time.
Dorothy was an
active parishioner with the The Salvation Army, Montreal Citadel
Church. For many years she was a member of a professional
womens’ organization, the Zonta Club of
Montreal.
Dorothy always had a love for
PEI and her heritage. She will be laid to rest beside her
parents in the Lorne Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Lorne Valley
Cemetery Fund would be greatly appreciated. Condolences and donations
may be made through Ferguson Logan Montague Funeral Home or at the
Lorne Valley Church on the day of the service.
