The death of
Edna Ann (MacPhee) Macdonald, age 94, occurred Sunday, Nov 3, 2019 at
Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Born in Selkirk, P.E.I., she was
the daughter of Alphonsus and Hannah (Shea) MacPhee. Edna’s
family moved to Cardigan in 1936 as her father was section foreman on
the railroad. She went to school in Cardigan and Union Commercial and
was employed by John A. Macdonald and Co. as book keeper for many
years. Later she worked for McKenna Bros, 48 Road where she expanded
her circle of acquaintances. Edna was predeceased by sisters Dora
(George) Garner, Lillian (Jim) Sullivan, Isabel (Earl) Murphy and
brother Hugh (Beatrice) MacPhee and by niece Joanne Garner and nephew
Richard MacPhee. Left to mourn are nieces and nephews Francis and
Joseph Garner; David, John, and Robert MacPhee; Joan (MacPhee)
Nicholl; Janet, Michael and Donna Sullivan and Roger Murphy and their
families. Edna was predeceased by her first husband John William
McDonald and by her second husband Kent Macdonald. Also left to mourn
are her brother-in-law Ernie (Marie) Macdonald, and Cathy Macdonald.
Edna will be greatly missed by her step children and their families:
Lucetta Stanley, Dunstan McDonald, David Macdonald, Nancy Marr, Teresa
Wilkie, Sarah Macdonald, Chris Macdonald, and Andrew
Macdonald. Brothers and sisters-in-law Jean, Ronan (Mary), John S.
(Bernadette), Fr. Clare, Fr. Andrew, and Frank have also gone to God.
Edna and Kent were great supporters of the community of
Cardigan, attending many events. Edna was active in the
Women’s Institute, the CWL and other Church committees.
Funeral Mass to take place at
All Saints Catholic Parish Church, Cardigan on Tuesday, November 12,
2019 at 11:00am. Visitation on Tuesday, from 9:30 to10:30 a.m. in the
McMillan Room at the Church. Interment to take place in the Parish
Cemetery. A small reception to take place following the Burial. In
lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to All Saints
Catholic Parish Church or its Cemetery Fund.
