It is with great sorrow that his family advises of the death
of Thomas Carey Purdy at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown
on May 9, 2021, in his 92nd year.
Tom is
survived by his loving wife of over 68 years, Mary (Murchison), Point
Prim and Charlottetown, his children Marian (Michael), Ottawa; David
(Janet) Pictou and Alison, Halifax, and his grandchildren Joshua
(Ingrid), Rachael and Samuel. He is also survived by his brother
Robert Purdy (the late Frances), Fredericton; sister-in-law Janet
Purdy (wife of his late brother Richard), Rothesay; sister-in-law Nora
Ring (the late Daryl), Rothesay, and many nieces, nephews and their
families.
Son of the late Carey and
Stella (Webb) Purdy, Tom spent his early years in Saint John,
graduating from Saint John High School. His 34-year career with Air
Canada began and concluded in Saint John, with 12 years in
Fredericton, and positions in Halifax and Yarmouth.
In retirement, Tom and Mary moved to their beloved Point Prim,
PEI home, spent 20 winters in Largo, Florida, and subsequent winters
in Charlottetown. Tom loved being active, was an avid fly fisher,
tying his own flies and taught fly tying. He took up golf in
retirement and followed baseball and hockey, sports he played in his
youth.
Tom always had a book "on the
go" and took a keen interest in history and current events. He
strongly believed in keeping both mind and body active.
Most of all, Tom was a devoted family man; being with
family was his chief happiness. Tom embodied many good qualities: he
was intelligent, considerate, kind, humourous and even-tempered. He
was a positive influence on many, was much loved and will be greatly
missed by family and friends.
The family
wishes to thank the staff at Whisperwood Villa and the Queen Elizabeth
Hospital Unit 3 for their care and assistance during Tom's
illness.
Due to covid restrictions a service will not be held at this
time. Those wishing to donate in Tom's memory may do so to the Polly
Cemetery, Mount Buchanan or the Charity of Choice.
No visiting hours at this time. Celebration of Life
