Peacefully on Saturday June 3, 2023, the passing of Cecil Edward Hughes, age 81,of Belfast, beloved husband of 61 years to Eunice  (Morrison) Hughes, occurred at the Kings County Memorial Hospital with family by his side. Born St. Marys Road, January 1, 1942, son of the late Thomas and Bertha (Mahar) Hughes. Survived by children, Darlene Hughes, Cathy (Douglas) MacKenzie; sister Margaret (Louis) Hughes; seven cherished grandchildren; six adored great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers and sisters, Reg, Herman, Thomas, Leonard, Bridgett, Mary and Sydella; cherished granddaughter, Faith.

Cecil loved his family and was happiest when they all gathered together. On his retirement from APM, he took up woodworking and spent many hours making furniture for the family. Every spring he would look forward to camping at Pine Hills. He was a committed member to AA and had 50 years of sobriety. He laughed easily and loved a good joke. He was a faithful man and up to the end of his life, practiced his faith the best he could. He was an easy man to talk to and many benefitted from his advice. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.


Resting at Ferguson Logan Montague Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Mass to be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 11:00 am, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Sturgeon. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.
