Her family is saddened to advise of the passing of Mary Purdy
(nee Murchison), in Charlottetown, on January 10th 2023, in her 95th
year.
Mary was the beloved daughter of the
late Rev. John and Annie (Stevenson) Murchison and the widow of Thomas
Purdy (deceased May 2021). She is survived by their children Marian
(Michael) of Ottawa, David (Janet) of Pictou and Alison of Halifax,
and grandchildren Joshua (Ingrid), Rachael and Samuel. She is also
survived by her sister, M. L. (Nora) Ring of Rothesay N.B., sister in
law Janet Purdy of Rothesay and brother in law Robert Purdy of
Fredericton, and by many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was
predeceased by her four brothers: John, Charles, Frank and James, and
their wives.
Mary was born and lived for many
years in Saint John NB, graduating from Saint John High School, where
she met her beloved Tom. They were married on 16 August 1952 at St.
John's Church in Belfast PEI. Later, Tom's career took them from Saint
John to Fredericton, Halifax and Yarmouth before returning to Saint
John. After retirement Tom and Mary moved to her much loved home in
Point Prim, spending winters in Florida and Charlottetown.
Mary loved life: she loved music and singing; she
loved sharing fun and memories with family and friends; she loved
dogs, and nature in its many forms, and especially, her home
at Point Prim. She was a proud descendant of the Selkirk settlers who
came to PEI in 1803. She will be laid to rest with her ancestors and
many relatives, and her dear Tom, in the Polly Cemetery at a future
date.
The family would like to thank the
wonderful staff at Whisperwood Villa, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital,
and Kathy Jenkins, for providing support and comfort to Mary.
Donations in Mary's memory may be made to the Polly
Cemetery fund, the Humane Society or the charity of your choice.
