Barbara Ann Jackson (Cheverie) age 67, passed
peacefully in her sleep, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, the
first day of summer, with her husband and children by her side. In a
room full of sunshine, flowers and love we said our goodbyes with
songs, heartfelt words and kisses.
Born in
Souris on February 18, 1956, she was the loving wife of 48 years to
John "Kent" Jackson from Fortune Bridge and proud
mother of Amanda (Dan Hansen) Neil (Crystal Nelson) and Alex (Kendre
LeBlanc) An incredibly loving & involved Grammie to Levi
& Finnegan Jackson... whom she loved "Bunches and
bunches"
Predeceased by her
father Danny "Flash" Cheverie and her grandmother, Charlotte
Cheverie (Fougere) who lovingly raised Barb as her very own and by
siblings Barbara MacDonald, Lois Cheverie, Esther Cheverie and Cecelia
Morash.
She will be deeply missed by siblings,
Doreen Mallard, Elanor Burke, Dorothy Burke, Edward Cheverie, Daniel
"Dan" Cheverie, Lynda Cheverie, Nancy Keeler, Steven
Cheverie, Matthew Cheverie, Donnie Vissey, Gary Vissey, Liz Earl,
Meriza Gionet, and Mike Gionet. Barb will also be missed by many
nieces, nephews and cousins from across Canada.
Barb was a feisty French Acadian girl who proudly grew up on the
"lower end" of Souris. She could turn her hand to anything
imaginable, from making clothes, the best damn hamburgers, quilting,
played guitar, piano, fiddle and sang like a songbird. She spent many
years working at the Colville Manor in Souris where she was fondly
referred to as "Angel" by many residents. Years later she
pursued further education at the Souris Harmony Training Centre under
the tutelage of Pam MacDonald, and quickly became an instructor
herself in the program. She lovingly took many a student under her
wing and formed bonds with them that lasted her entire lifetime. Barb
later joined forces with her dear friend Debby Beck at Montague
Computer, and became an instructor with the Academy Of Learning. Again
creating family like bonds with her workmates and students.
In 2010 Barb successfully battled cancer and decided
to slow down into retirement. She often enjoyed quiet alone time,
walking the beaches, and knitting with her sister/aunts in Souris,
over biscuits and tea, and maybe a little Chardonnay:) However she
also enjoyed a good ol’ house party with family, guitar in
hand, barefoot dancing in the kitchen at Gary &
Edith’s farm, a good game of crib, and singing to the
rafters. A petite french girl, a force of nature, intelligent and
independent, fierce yet kind, unforgettable.
A
private committal ceremony will be held at a later date where her
ashes will be laid to rest with Charlotte, her "mom" at the
St Mary’s cemetery in Souris. Guaranteed to be followed by a
bonfire and guitar party... just like she would have wanted.
Deepest gratitude to the Home Care Program in
Montague especially "our rock" Mallory Peters, to Dr.
Jeannette Verleun, to Dr Janet Baker and all staff and volunteers at
the Provincial Palliative Care Centre. Due to these expert and loving
teams Barb’s final days were full of comfort, dignity
and
peace.
Donations to the
Provincial Palliative Care Centre are highly encouraged, whether
financially, or by volunteering
of time or a sharing of
your talents. Please consider doing one of these in Barb’s
honor.
