It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Alfred McGowan, aged 85, of Montague on March 31, 2024 at the Souris Hospital. He was the son of Murdock McGowan and Lorna (Weatherbie).  He was predeceased by his wife Carolyn (Larter Dewar), parents, brother Sidney(Jean), sisters Joan (Dexter Sampson) and Jessie (Ron Rowe). He leaves behind his sons Allister (Catherine Mills) and Todd, daughter Jessie (Miller MacPherson), step-daughter Michelle Dewar, grandchildren Caitlin and Luke, brother-in-law Ron and many nieces and nephews.

John grew up in Kilmuir. After attending Acadia University he returned home to take over and run the family business which he did with tremendous dedication. He continued in farming machinery sales into his eighties.

For parts of his life he also lived in Lower Montague and Charlottetown. John was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed cooking and dancing and loved his grandchildren dearly. He will be missed.

There will be no visitation. A service and burial will be at a later date.
