Peacefully at the Riverview Manor, the passing of James "Raymond" Shaw, age 95, formerly of Lorne Valley, occurred on Monday, January 6, 2025, with family by his side.  Devoted and loving husband of the late Muriel (MacDonald) Shaw. Born in Lorne Valley, May 13, 1929, son of the late Daniel and Maie (MacLaren) Shaw. Survived by children Corinne (Ian) MacDonald, Shane (Karen) Shaw, Ferne (Barry Blackett) Drake, Walter (Gail) Shaw, Robert Shaw (Wendy), Carol (Brendon) Crane, Stacey (Darren) MacEachern; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; sisters, Emily Myers, Marina Myers, Adele Webster, Roberta (Rev. Ron) Pocklington, and Lola Shaw. Predeceased by daughter Heather, daughters Helen, Laura, and Lorna in infancy; brother Donald (Hannah) Shaw; sister Christine Shaw; brothers-in-law Bruce Myers, Alvin Myers, Jackie Webster; and great granddaughter Amelia MacDonald.

From an early age, Raymond demonstrated his tenacity and work ethic when he began working full time on the family farm at the age of 14. Over the years Raymond worked several jobs in addition to farm work including a mail route and a school bus route. He was an Elder of the Cardigan Presbyterian Church and a lifelong supporter and eventually caretaker of the Lorne Valley Church and Cemetery. Raymond was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 65 years.

Raymond ‘Grampie’ and Muriel ‘Nannie/Grammie’ hosted many very large family gatherings. Including buffet style Christmas dinners that ended with a kitchen party in the small farmhouse kitchen. They spent many summers as seasonal residents of the Seal Cove Campground where many family picnics were held and rounds of mini golf were played. He was a storyteller and shared numerous stories with his children and grandchildren. He also wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to cuddle a baby. Raymond was a paternal figure to many, not only to his own family.

His values and talents have been passed on to the next generations and he will be greatly missed by us all.
