It is with
deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of James
Clifford Herring, age 72, on July 13, 2025 at Scarborough Centenary
Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.
James was born on
January 1, 1953 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was the first child of
Clifford Herring and the late Norma Herring. James lived a full and
adventurous life as a child growing up in Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto and
St. John’s.
After meeting his
beloved wife, Linda Campbell, at the age of 17 in Murray River, PEI,
he started building a lifetime of memories in Charlottetown, Saint
John, Calgary and finally settling in Whitby,
Ontario.
James is survived by his
beloved wife, Linda Herring, who was his life partner and best friend.
He was a proud father to his devoted daughter, Tammy Herring, and his
cherished grandchildren Avery and William Truesdell, who brought
immense joy to him.
He will be lovingly remembered
by his sisters: Susan Strickland (predeceased by husband Ambrose) and
Lorna Stevenson (Paul). He will also be remembered by his mother in
law, Barbara Fraser and sister in law, Anne Pater (Mario). He leaves
behind many extended family members and a wide circle of long time
friends and neighbours across Canada.
James dedicated
an impressive 38 years of his life to the banking industry, where he
built a distinguished career grounded in hard work, integrity, and
professionalism. Throughout nearly four decades of service, he earned
the respect of colleagues and clients alike through his unwavering
commitment, sharp attention to detail, and consistent pursuit of
excellence. His journey was defined not only by professional success
but also by the meaningful relationships he formed along the way,
leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of working
with him.
A man of many passions, James
had an enduring love for trains and history. He was known for his
warm, welcoming nature, always ready to strike up a conversation and
make a new friend. His days were happily filled with reading,
gardening, daily Tim Hortons coffee runs, and travels that fed his
curiosity and passion for learning.
James will be
remembered for his kindness, his storytelling, and the way he made
everyone feel like a friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew
him.
A service to celebrate
James’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 2pm
at Murray Harbour Church of Christ followed by a private interment for
immediate family. After the interment, there will be a reception held
in the Murray Harbour Church of Christ
Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be
made in James’s memory to the Canadian Heart and Stroke
Foundation.
