It is with
the deepest sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Edgar
John Pretty of New Perth on August 17, 2025, age 78, just 1 week shy
of his 57 th wedding anniversary. He was surrounded by his loved ones.
Edgar was born in 1947 in Bishop’s Falls, Newfoundland to
Jack and Elizabeth Pretty. He was a proud Newfoundlander and deeply
loved his adopted home of PEI, but he loved his family most. In 1967
he joined the RCMP. In 1968 he married his love, Elizabeth Jean
Faulkner of Bishop’s Falls and moved to PEI. In 1975 he
became an Air Traffic Controller in Charlottetown and worked there
until the Tower closed in 1996. He was transferred to Gander, NF where
he was a Controller during 9/11. He liked to say that their door
didn’t close for 5 days with people needing friendship, food
and showers. In 2005 he retired back to his beloved PEI where the next
adventure began. He loved travelling the world with his wife, golfing
with friends and family and as an avid fly fisher, fishing salmon with
his son in Newfoundland.
He leaves
behind his wife, Elizabeth (Bette), his children Dawn Gaudet (husband
Julien), Tina Myers and Jonathan Pretty, his sisters Barbara Macleod
(husband Earl) and Helen King (husband
Clarence) along with
countless family and friends who loved him. We are heartbroken that he
is going on his next adventure alone. There will not be a wake nor
service however, there will be a celebration of life on September 6 th
starting at 1pm at his daughter’s home for friends and
family at 25 Michael Dean Lane where we can share stories and
laughter.
In lieu of flowers,
donations to the Salvation Army would be
appreciated.
