Peacefully at the Dr. John Gillis Memorial Lodge, Belfast, of Gertrude "Gertie" Murphy (nee McGuigan) age 92, devoted wife of the late Thomas J. Murphy, occurred on Thursday, February 5, 2015, with her daughters by her side. Born May 26, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Mae (McKearney) McGuigan. Gertie is survived by daughters Clem Murphy, Brudenell, Linda (Gary) Gaudet, New Perth, Gladys (Peter) Smith, Oromocto, NB; siblings Theresa McGuigan, Oshawa ON, Clemmie Sheehan, Halifax, Barbara Casey, Halifax, Preston (Greta) McGuigan, Montague, Colleen O’Halloran, Brudenell. Cherished grandchildren Lisa (Permagnus) Andersson, Michelle (Cyril) Vancolen, Ryan (Darla) Murphy, Erika Smith and  Shawn Smith. Adored great grandchildren Sophie and Emma Andersson,  Dakota, Trey, and Bella Rose Vancolen; Madelyn and Maggie Murphy, Darby Lee and Chloe Gormley. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved son Thomas Jr.; sister Elizabeth McGuigan; brothers Aneas, Reginald, Howlan; brothers-in-law Herbert McGuigan, John Sheehan, George Casey, Arling O’Halloran and Peter McGuigan; Sisters-in-law Violet McGuigan, Gertrude McGuigan and Althea McGuigan.

Resting at Ferguson Logan Montague Funeral Home, with visitation on Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 3:00 pm. from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Montague. Interment to take place in the Parish Cemetery. Donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
